How to pick a kids ride-on car charger
A replacement charger is the most common part a ride-on car needs. Matching it takes two minutes if you know where to look: the voltage, the plug and the battery type.
Step 1: read the battery voltage
Every ride-on battery has its voltage on the label: 6V for toddler cars, 12V for most single-seat jeeps and trucks, 24V for two-seat cars and UTVs. Some 24V cars use two 12V batteries in series, so check the car's own label too. The charger voltage must match exactly.
Step 2: check the plug
- Round port: 2.1 × 5.5 mm centre-positive barrel plug, the most common.
- Rectangular port: square plug.
- Fisher-Price Power Wheels gray or orange-top battery: its own connector.
- Peg Perego 12V battery: its own connector.
Take a photo of the port or old plug before you order; it is the quickest way to avoid a mismatch.
How long does it take to charge a 12V kids car?
With a 1000 mA charger, most 12V batteries recharge in 8 to 12 hours. A new battery should charge for a full night, up to 18 hours, before its first ride. The LAZORA charger light glows red while charging and turns green when the battery is full.
How to charge a kids electric car safely
- Charge indoors, in a dry place, on a hard surface.
- Use the car's charging port, not loose clips on the battery.
- Recharge after every ride, even short ones.
- Over winter, top the battery up once a month.
- Never charge a swollen, cracked or leaking battery.
Our chargers include overcharge, short-circuit, overload and overheat protection, but good habits still add seasons to a battery's life.
